For a year, the Church has built its web on the internet, an interest that is not new but is becoming more urgent in response to appeals from the Pope during the last World Communications Day. Father Eric de Beukelaer, spokesman of the bishops of Belgium, explains the interest to be part of this digital continent. “The Internet is always an opportunity and in any case we do not have much choice: since people are there, we must also be present. I would add that it is a double opportunity, because this is a mode of communication in which youth can teach adults. If adults can help young people learn about the Gospel through their experience and study, well the youth, from a digital point of view, are naturals with the internet." If the Pope has specifically requested the priests to evangelize through the Internet, it is also to show the diverse faces of the Church. This diversity bear witness to the same faith and allows everyone, whatever their age or origins, to join in that same service. “The institution is one thing, but precisely because the internet is something greatly decentralized, something that is networked, it is especially to Christians that we must turn to… I think it’s a great opportunity to start young people on this new field, this new continent as they say.
