Alan García Pérez, President of the Republic of Peru, was received in audience by Benedict XVI on Monday, November 30th. The President subsequently went on to meet with Cardinal Taricsio Bertone, Secretary of State.The cordial meetings provided an opportunity for a fruitful exchange of opinions on questions concerning the current international and regional situation. Attention then focused on certain aspects of the situation in Peru, in particular on the government’s commitment to eliminate poverty, on the promotion of the rule of law, on the protection of the environment and on fields of collaboration between Church and State.
