Benedict XVI: Only love makes us happy
08/06/2009 (1:21)

“God does not live in splendid solitude: He is rather an inexhaustible source of life that gives and communicates without ceasing.”

On the feast of the Most Holy Trinity, Pope Benedict XVI recalled how God is love, “not in the unity of a single person, but in the Trinity of a single substance.”

He is “Creator and Merciful Father: He is the Only Begotten Son, eternal wisdom incarnate, who died and rose from the dead for us; He is the Holy Spirit that moves the cosmos and all history.” God, therefore, is “all and only love, purest love, infinite and eternal, and He is ever present in all that surrounds us.”

Pope Benedict said that we can in some measure find Him by observing both the great things and the smallest things, our planetary system, the stars and galaxies as in cells, atoms and elementary particles.

“In all that exists,” he said, “the name of the Most Holy Trinity is impressed, for all that is comes from love, tends toward love, and moves under the impetus of love.”
