The Synod on the Word of God, which was held this past October in Rome, had an accentuated ecumenical dimension. Archbishop Nikola Eterovic, General Secretary of the Synod, recently highlighted this dimension in New York.

Archbishop Eterovic noted the growth in dialogue between the Catholic Church and the episcopal community and explained this community’s appreciation and interest in the synodal prepositions. He also praised the American Bible Society’s dedication to spreading the Bible and promoting unity among Christians.

After having explained the dynamics, analysis and internal logic of the Synod, the Archbishop insisted on the great importance that both John Paul II and Benedict XVI dedicated to the topic of ecumenism. In this manner, he recalled that during the Synod ecumenical delegations were not considered “observers”, but for the first time were named delegations.
