Benedict XVI: Welcome immigrants, do not reject them!
09/11/2009 (0:54)

The global migration phenomenon can become a positive factor for the understanding between peoples and the building of peace and of a development that interests all nations. This is what Benedict XVI underlined in his speech to the participants of the congress on migrations, organized by the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People.

Migrations invite us to emphasize to the unity of the human family, the value of hospitality and the love for our neighbors. In order to be able to welcome others, Christians must be willing to listen to the Word of God, which calls us to imitate Christ and to remain united to Him. Only in this manner will we be solicitous in our dealings with others, never yielding to the temptation of disrespect and rejection of those who are different. Welcoming others invites us to critically rethink the current model of society, which is based solely on material values.
